MARION — Farrah Castleman scored 28 points to lead Massac County to a 52-38 win over Marion at the Lady Cat Tip-Off Classic.
The Lady Patriots (2-0) jumped out quickly, building a 16-4 lead after one. The Lady Wildcats (0-2) cut the deficit to five in the second quarter, but Massac County extended that lead back to ten, 29-19 at the half.
Marion continued to hang around, closing within 36-32 heading to the fourth quarter.
The Lady Wildcats cut it two, but could never take the lead. Massac County then pulled away down the stretch for the 14-point win.
The tournament continues Wednesday. Marion has the night off, while Massac County will face Hamilton County. That game will be played at Herrin, since Marion’s school was closed Wednesday due to bed bugs.
