Harrisburg improves to 13-0 with win at Massac County

METROPOLIS — Harrisburg head girls basketball coach Jake Stewart wasn’t sure what to expect from his team this year. That’s understandable after losing four starters to graduation from last year’s 28-6 team plus having two key contributors coming back from major injuries.

The Lady Bulldogs have answered a lot of questions early as they improved to 13-0 with a 52-41 win at Massac County Thursday night.

One of the two coming back from injury is Lauren McDaniel. Despite being a bit under the weather, McDaniel scored eight of her game high 22 in the fourth quarter to lead the Harrisburg attack. Essence Sanders also reached double figures with 11.

Cali McCraw led Massac County with 17. Kendra Waldon added 11.

The Lady Bulldogs will face Rochester Saturday at the Civic Memorial Shootout in Bethalto and then will be a part of a loaded Rangerette Christmas Classic in Benton next week.

The Lady Patriots will host Anna-Jonesboro Saturday afternoon and visit Paducah Tilghman Monday night.
