ELDORADO — Carmi-White County and Eldorado got off to a slow start in the final quarterfinal at the 55th Eldorado Holiday Tournament. The Bulldogs grounded the Eagles in the second and cruised to a 66-48 win to earn a spot in the tournament semifinals.
Carmi-White County led 4-2 after one quarter thanks to a buzzer beater by Ty Stubblefield. The Bulldogs then scored the first seven points of the second quarter as KaCee Fulkerson hit a three-pointer followed by layups from Ethan Mahon and Fulkeron. Nolan Milligan stopped the run with a basket for the Eagles, but a three-pointer from Devin Rankin and a three-point play off a steal by Ty Barbre gave the Bulldogs a 19-4 lead and forced an Eldorado timeout.
The Bulldogs wound up outscoring the Eagles 24-5 in the second quarter to lead 28-7 at the half, and they went on to the 18-point win.
It was the first upset by seed in this year’s tournament.
Carmi-White County will now play Massac County Saturday at 1:30 to determine who will advance to the championship game. Herrin will face Fairfield in the first semifinal at noon.
