CARTERVILLE — The Nashville Hornets moved into a first place tie with Pinckneyville in the River to River-Mississippi thanks to a 45-34 win at Carterville Saturday night.
The Hornets saw a ten point third quarter lead shrink to five, but Terry Pelczynski hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give Nashville a 31-23 lead heading to the fourth.
Pelczynski’s three kick-started a big run for Nashville. Buzz Ritzel’s four-point play capped a 14-2 run, giving the Hornets a 42-25 lead.
Carterville would not get any closer than ten the rest of the way.
Nashville’s Carson Parker led all scorers with 14. Ritzel added ten.
Bryce Anderson led Carterville with 13.
The Hornets improve to 13-3, 3-0 in Mississippi play. The Lions fall to 7-6, 2-1 in the conference–a game back of Pinckneyville and Nashville.
