HERRIN — Prior to its home boys basketball game against Harrisburg Friday night, Herrin High School recognized five members of the Army National Guard set to deploy to Afghanistan as part of Operation Freedom Sentinel.
Four were graduates of Herrin High School and the fifth is currently a teacher in the Herrin school district.
The graduates are John Giacone (’05), Garrett Lukens (’08), Kent Sherrill (’08), and Marshall Anderson (’10). Tim Downen is a Physical Education teacher at Herrin Elementary.
Herrin went on to win the game 84-73.
