MT. VERNON — For the sixth year, Mt. Vernon Township High School hosted its Fans in the Stands Night Saturday, a way to support the school’s Special Olympic basketball team along with the Mt. Vernon Mavericks.
The night featured all the amenities of a big-time high school match up, complete with the band, cheerleaders, and fans with signs supporting their favorite players.
The game also served a tuneup for both teams as they prepared for the District tournaments which are qualifiers for the state tournament.

Sunday, the Rams beat Alton/Wood River 75-55 and Rushville-Industry 68-30 to win the District 2 championship and earn a trip to the State Tournament.
