SESSER — Rick Metcalf will be back in Vienna and back on the bench come basketball season–only this time as head coach of the Lady Eagles. Metcalf went 89-30 in four seasons as the Eagles head coach from 2004-08.
The Vienna school board approved hiring Metcalf at Thursday night’s meeting. He replaces one of his former players, Jamie Kerley, who resigned last month after five seasons as the girls basketball and volleyball head coach.
Metcalf has won more than 600 games in his coaching career. Vienna will be the second school he has coached both the boys and girls. He coached the Sesser-Valier boys for 14 seasons. Then after four seasons in Vienna, returned to the coach the SVW girls.
Metcalf says he’s energized about the opportunity. He sat down and talked about his new job with Darren Kinnard.
