CENTRALIA — Centralia High School announced Friday that there will be no boys basketball holiday tournament this year, due to restrictions put in place by the IHSA and the state of Illinois.

The school released the following statement: “It is with great regret that we are canceling the 2020 Centralia Holiday Tournament in order to abide by the guidelines set forth by the IHSA and the State of Illinois. The 78th Annual will take
place December 28, 29, 30 2021.”

Centralia has hosted the holiday tournament every year since 1943.

School officials from Carbondale, Sesser-Valier, Pinckneyville and Benton confirmed their tournaments–the Carbondale Holiday Tournament, the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament, the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic, and the Rangerette Christmas Classic–have also been canceled this year due to the regulations. A final decision has not been made for the Eldorado Holiday Tournament. The Christopher Turkey Tournament and Crab Orchard Turkey Tournament have also been canceled.
