WEST FRANKFORT — Nashville and Anna-Jonesboro each picked up a team title and runner up finish at the six-team Redbird Cross Country Invitational Thursday at West Frankfort City Park.
The Hornettes won the girls contest with the Wildcats taking the title by a single point on the boys’ side. Neither team had the top individuals.
Massac County’s Ansley Bailey dominated the girls race. The SIU commit won in a time of 18:46, which was more than two minutes ahead of A-J’s Brodie Denny. Denny had won the first head to head battle between two of the region’s top individuals earlier in the week at Herrin.
Speaking of Herrin, the Tigers’ Ruben Pullum took the lead at the two-mile mark and never looked back, winning with a time of 16:50. That was 11 seconds better than Nashville’s Ray Habeck who took second.
