OLNEY — After missing last season due to injury, Carbondale’s Alex Partlow was hungry and motivated this season. The junior added “Sectional Champion” to his resume, after he bested the field with a time of 15:32 to win the Olney 2A Sectional title.
Marion freshman Dylon Nalley finished third with Paltrow’s teammate Tucker Poshard grabbing fifth.
Partlow and Poshard have been a formidable duo all season, but at the sectional, the two were split up–not by choice. Covid protocols called for four races for both the boys and girls to keep the numbers of competitors per race down. Only the number one runners from each team and other top individuals went in the first the heat.
Poshard made the most of his opportunity. The senior won his heat with a time of 15:52, which was landed him in fifth overall, less than a second away from a fourth place finish.
With Nalley leading the way, Marion finished third as a team. That would’ve earned the Wildcats a trip to state, but with the state meet canceled due to the pandemic, the season ends with the sectional.
On the girls side, only two individuals finished in the top 20. Carbondale senior Madeline Prideaux wrapped up her stellar career with an eighth place finish. Mt. Vernon sophomore Britney Brown finished 16th.
