DU QUOIN — One of the area’s top baseball players has made his college choice official, and he will be staying close to home.
Du Quoin’s Brian Winters, Jr. signed with John A. Logan College Monday. After playing the infield for the Indians, Winters Jr. played centerfield for the Southern Illinois team in the Colt World Series. Centerfield is where the Volunteers plan to play him.
“It was something new me, but I enjoyed it,” Winters, Jr. said. “The amount of players they send to the next level, and the success they’ve had at the juco level is impressive.”
Winters, Jr. hit .280 with 23 RBIs and 23 stolen bases on 29 games as a sophomore. He hit .345 with St. Louis Prospects 17U team this past summer.
