CARBONDALE — Sophomore Ian Davis scored all three goals as the Carbondale Terriers won their boys soccer season opener Wednesday, shutting out Pinckneyville 3-0.
Davis found the net just shy of 11 minutes into the first half for a 1-0 Terriers lead. Carbondale goalkeeper Alex Van Winkle and Pinckneyville goalkeeper Jayden Clark kept it that way until halftime.
Davis went back to work two minutes into the second half. His big blast from the top found the corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.
It remained 2-0 until Davis added some insurance, netting the hat trick with a little more than 16 minutes to play.
Both teams are back in action Thursday. Carbondale will host Carterville/Herrin, while Pinckneyville will welcome Marion.
