CARBONDALE — The Centralia Annies are the top ranked team in our Deep South Volleyball Coaches’ Poll, and they showed why Tuesday night, winning at tenth ranked Carbondal 25-13, 25-17.

Centralia jumped out to a big lead in the opener and never allowed Carbondale to get any rhythm. The Annies threatened to do the same in game two, bolting out to a 13-6. Led by Sierra Sherrill, the Terriers made a run. Sherrill posted back to back blocks for points followed by a kill to pull Carbondale within two. Bria Sisk’s ace capped an 8-3 spurt that cut Centralia’s lead to 16-15, prompting Annies’ coach Angie Edson to call a timeout.

It was all Centralia after that as Carbondale did not have an answer for Rylee Edson. Edson helped the Annies tally eight straight for a 24-15 lead. After the Terriers fought off a pair of match points, Edson fittingly closed it out with a kill.

Centralia improves to 3-0 on the season, 2-0 in the South 7. Carbondale falls to 2-1, 0-1 in conference play.
