MURPHYSBORO — The Murphysboro Red Devils posted their second straight shutout by the exact same score, blanking Harrisburg 27-0.
The Red Devils have allowed a point in 101 game minutes and have recorded ten scoreless quarters in the 12 they’ve played this season.
Offensively, sophomore Devon Clemons got the scoring started with a 64-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The extra point was no good. The Red Devils led 6-0 after one.
They added to that lead with another long TD run in the second, as senior Payton Austin broke free for a 69-yard scoring jaunt. This time Murphysboro converted the two-point conversion and led 14-0 at the half.
Clemons scored his second touchdown of the night in the final minute of the third quarter. The four-yard TD gave the Red Devils a 20-0 lead after three.
Senior Gavin Kuba wrapped up the scoring with a six-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
The Red Devils improve to 2-1, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-2. Both teams will face unbeaten opponents next week as Murphysboro will travel to Benton, while Harrisburg will host Herrin.
