CARBONDALE — Monday was a big day for Carbondale senior Tucker Poshard, as he signed to run track and cross country at Tulane.

“It’s means a lot,” Poshard said. “It’s been a long process. Four years ago, this never seemed like a possibility at all.”

Four years ago, signing a track and cross country scholarship wasn’t even a thought for Poshard–because he played soccer.

“I never even thought I was going to get a scholarship in that or even play at the next level in soccer,” Poshard said. “Then made the switch to track and field. Also, I didn’t expect to get a scholarship. It wasn’t until seven, eight months ago that I really realized this might be an opportunity. (I) just started that process kinda late, but after six, seven months of extra work, here we are, and it’s amazing.”

Now Poshard is headed for Tulane, and he’s excited for what the future holds.

“I think that the AAC, the American Athletic Conference, is going to be a good, competitive conference that we can really try to build something new as a team there,” Poshard said. “Hopefully (we can) truly compete and probably win a conference championship by the time we’re through there.”

For now, Poshard says he will enjoy his final season with his Terrier teammates.

“The last four years have been so fun,” Poshard said. “I’ve got to build some great relationships with some great people on this team, but I am kind of excited to say the least about the next four years. Just to be done with the process of recruiting is definitely exciting.”

In addition to competing at the Division I level, Poshard will have a full plate academically as well. He plans to double major in International Political Economy and Business Management as well as minoring in French and possibly Environmental Studies.
