MURPHYSBORO — The Murphysboro Red Devils girls soccer team has zeroes in a couple of important stat boxes–losses and goals allowed. The Red Devils improved to 8-0 with their eighth shutout of the season, beating Carbondale 2-0 Friday night.
Annie Decker scored a first half goal, Alyssa Werner added a second half tally via penalty kick, and the Red Devils’ suffocating defense did the rest.
Murphysboro head coach Michael Lydy said he thought his club’s defense would be this stingy based on the new scheme they’re playing with multiple lines of defense along with impressive freshman goal keeper Bailey Summers.
Lydy called it the best team he’s coached in a long time. The unbeaten Red Devils will return to SIRR play Tuesday at Harrisburg.
The Terriers have dropped two straight and are 7-3-1 on the season.
