CARTERVILLE — On a day marked with some great individual performances, Marion’s Janae Maxwell may have had the most impressive. Maxwell won or was a part of four first place finishes to lead the Wildcats to victory at the 10-team Carterville Girls Track and Field Invitational Monday.

Maxwell won the 100 meters and was a part of three winning relays–the 4×100, the 4×200, and the 4×400.

Marion also swept the throws. Freshman Lois Johnson set a new personal best by 36 feet in winning the discus with a throw of 96-02. Teammate Maryiah Menicucci was second in the discus after winning the shot put.

The Wildcats needed those types of performances to hold off Du Quoin. Grace Alongi and Jalynn Wood each won two events for the Lady Indians. Alongi won the triple jump and the 400 meters, while Wood set a new school record (10-7) to win the pole vault, then came back to win the 100 meter hurdles. Olivia Phillips also set a Du Quoin school record in the 3200 with a time of 11:50.52.

Here are the final team standings:
Marion 129
Du Quoin 117
Herrin 51
Benton 47
Pinckneyville 44
Carterville 39
West Frankfort 38
Harrisburg 35
Massac Co. 28
