MARION — The Massac County Lady Patriots held on to beat Marion 25-23, 25-23 in the volleyball season opener for both teams.

Massac County led 20-13 in game one before Marion rattled off seven straight points to tie the game at 20. The Lady Patriots scored the next four for a 24-20 lead. Marion fought off three game points but could not tie it back up.

Massac County jumped out to another quick lead in the second scoring 10 of the first 13 points.

Once again Marion battled back, eventually tying it at 23-23. The Lady Wildcats appeared to take the lead but were called in the net. Massac County took full advantage as Abigail Martin’s ace ended it, giving the Lady Patriots the road win.
