Renewed excitement surrounds Terrier Football


CARBONDALE — The Carbondale Terriers are one of several teams quite happy the shortened COVID-edition spring football season is behind them.

After seeing a low turnout in the spring, Terriers head coach Bryan Lee says he has in the neighborhood of 70 kids out in the fall, the most in his tenure at Carbondale.

While Lee and company have some important seniors to replace including quarterback Darius Ragland and linebacker Will Bowlby, the Terriers return several playmakers on offense, led by senior running back Gabe Hilliard who is one of the top players in the region.

After not playing in the spring, the annual Jackson County Bragging Rights game with Murphysboro is back, as the Terriers and Red Devils will meet for the 103rd time Friday night to open the season.
