MASCOUTAH — The Mt. Vernon Rams just couldn’t counter the balanced attack of the state ranked Mascoutah Indians Friday night. Much like their dominant win over Columbia, the Indians saw Chase Hanson’s air and ground assault take them for more than 40 points, this time a 47-12 win.
Hanson found six different targets in completing 15 of 20 passes for 249 yards and five TDs while punching another score in on the ground and rushing for 65 yards. Perhaps Hanson’s most impressive throw was a 41-yard heave to Shaun Kendrick with Mt. Vernon’s Deshaunsae King hot on his trail after busting right through the offensive line.
After falling behind 27-0 in the opening quarter, the Rams found their first score of the year with an 88-yard kickoff return from Marcus Garrett. Late in the third quarter and with a running clock, the Rams found their first offensive touchdown on a 13-yard run by Navontae Nesbit, Jr.
Myron Nettles delayed a running clock late in the third when he intercepted a Hanson pass with 2:35 left. The Rams were unable to parlay that momentum into a drive, but the defense managed to keep the Indians from punching another into the endzone and securing a 40-point lead.
For the Indians, Devon Parks scored two rushing touchdown and finished with 12 carries for 43-yards. Kendrick hauled in four catches for 97 yards and two TDs.
