CARBONDALE –The Carbondale Terriers got first half goals from Luca DiMaggio and Nate Torres then had to hold on down the stretch to beat Carterville/Herrin 2-1 in the championship match of the Carbondale 2A Regional.

Terriers head coach Jeff Hansen said when his team was 5-8 a little more than a month ago, thoughts of a regional championship were not even on the radar.

Now Carbondale advances to the Triad Sectional, where they will face the host Knights, who are the top seed. That match will be Tuesday at 4:30.
