VIENNA — The 15-game Vienna Classic came down to the final one to decide a tournament champion, and the Massac County Patriots took care of the host Eagles 69-55 to finish 5-0 for the week and take home the championship.
The Patriots used a 9-0 run to close the first half to open a 43-26 lead at intermission. After Vienna trimmed the deficit to 14, Massac County hit the Eagles with an 8-0 spurt to push the lead to 22 points. The Eagles could never get the lead down to single digits the rest of the way before falling by 14.
Massac County sophomore Isaac Hosman led all scorers with 17. He was one of five Patriots to finish in double figures. Will Harmon added 16, Brody Smallman 12, Brady Cissell and Ian Higgerson chipped in 11 points apiece.
Sean Acree led Vienna with 16. Kaden Vaughn added 15 and Skylar Blankenship 12.
Hosman was named Tournament MVP with Cissell joining him on the All-Tournament Team. Vienna’ Owen Treat, Meridian’s Roderick Gatewood Jr., and Cobden’s Tyler Franklin and Elliott Lowndes rounded out the team.
