CARTERVILLE — Elliot Lowndes would have had a good night even if you only counted his third quarter stats. Cobden’s 6-foot-11 senior scored 14 of his game high 26 points in the third quarter to lead the Appleknockers past Agape Christian 73-38.
The game was played at John A. Logan College in Carterville. Cobden must play all games away from home this season after the Appleknockers’ gym was condemned in August.
Trailing 40-28 at the half, the Knights scored the first four points of the third quarter to pull within 40-32, and that’s when Lowndes went to work. He scored those 14 third quarter points during a 22-2 run to close the quarter, giving Cobden a 62-34 lead heading to the fourth.
Tyler Franklin added 12 for the Appleknockers. Drake Campbell tallied 10. Isaac Goldman led the Knights with 13. Delton Boles added 12.
With the game in hand and the continuous clock running in the game’s final minutes, Cobden tried to get freshman Kohen Moore a chance to score. Moore has been battling back from a near-fatal car accident in 2018. He was unable to officially score, but with some persistence, he was able to make a basket after the final buzzer, setting off a celebration by his teammates and Cobden fans.
