Goreville gets by Gallatin County to win Lady Eagle Winter Classic

ELDORADO — Goreville girls basketball coach Pete Gordon admits it was a long week for his team. Not only did the Lady Blackcats play four games in the Lady Eagle Winter Classic, there were homecoming festivities all week. Gordon’s club figured out how to balance it all, downing Gallatin County 47-42 in the championship game.

Goreville got off to a great start, building a 19-10 lead after one, but the Lady Hawks rallied in the second to pull even at 23 halftime. The teams were still even after three quarters and headed to the fourth tied 32-32.

The Lady Hawks grabbed a 38-35 early in the fourth, but the the Lady Blackcats answered with nine straight points to take the lead for good on the way to a five-point win.

Macie Tosh led Goreville with 14 points. Gallatin County’s Carly Foster led all scorers with 25.

Goreville’s Abby Compton was named tournament MVP.
