MT. VERNON — The Centralia Orphans took care of business on the road Friday night at rival Mt. Vernon, edging the Rams 39-36 to clinch at least a share of the South 7 title.
Centralia got 15 points from senior Davin Tabor in the win. It was another great defensive effort from the Orphans, including Daryle Jones, who had a big steal late in the game. The Orphans held Rams’ standout NJ Benson to just four made baskets from the floor. Benson finished with a game high 18 points.
The Orphans are now 21-2 on the season and have a three game lead in the South Seven race at 7-0. Centralia will play at the Pinckneyville Shootout Saturday night at 7:00 against Mascoutah. Mt. Vernon will visit Breese Mater Dei at 7:45.
