Good day for area bowlers at Girls State Finals

ROCKFORD — Anna-Jonesboro and Salem, along with Mt. Vernon’s Makayla Storment and Freeburg’s Lauren Hunter, have all made the cut and will compete in Saturday’s final round of the Girls State Bowling Tournament in Rockford. The top 12 teams (out of 24) along with the top 30 individuals not on those 12 teams all make the cut.

The A-J Lady Wildcats are seventh after day one with 5479 pins. That’s 440 pins behind the leader, Lockport Township, and currently 187 pins out of the top 5. Anna-Jonesboro senior Madi Hawk is the top area bowler in the individual standings. Hawk is 16th with 1210 pins.

The Salem Lady Wildcats are 11th after day one with 5396 pins. Seniors Keelie Gass (1146 pins) and Abby Cunningham (1134 pins) have the top scores for Salem so far.

Storment and Hunter are both in the top 30 overall after day one. Storment is 26th with 1190 pins, while Hunter is 28th with 1188 pins.

The final qualifiers have not been posted, but it appears that Waterloo senior Carleigh McFarlane will miss the individual cut by a single pin.

The finalists will roll six more games Saturday on the final day of the tournament.
