MARION — The Harrisburg Bulldogs have made a habit of rallying late to win games in the early part of the baseball season. Tuesday, it looked as if the Bulldogs were going to do it again, but the Herrin Tigers turned the tables and walked off with a 6-5 win.
Cameron McEvers’ RBI single in the second scored Evan Young to give Herrin a 1-0 lead. The Tigers added to that lead two innings later on Carter McCree’s two-run single that scored Young and Fox Connor for a 3-0 Herrin lead.
Harrisburg answered with two runs in the fifth on run scoring hits from Ethan Golish and Braden Burtis to cut it to 3-2.
Herrin added an insurance tally in the bottom of the sixth, but Riley King’s two-run single in the top of the seventh tied the game 4-4. Harrisburg then took its first lead of the day on Camron Ande’s squeeze bunt to score King.
The Tigers answered in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game on McEvers’ second RBI hit of the day. This one scored Eli Watkins to make it 5-5. Two batters later, freshman pinch runner Vance Miles scored from third on a wild pitch giving the Tigers a come from behind, walk-off win.
