MARION — The wet weather has been a source of significant frustration for area coaches and players as numerous postponements and cancellations have dominated the recent schedule. The Goreville Blackcats and Vienna Eagles moved their Black Diamond–West battle to Rent One Park Tuesday night. For the Blackcats, it was their first conference game of the season.
Goreville clicked on all cylinders, cruising to a 9-0 win. On the mound, Drake Moss tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout. AJ Johnson led the Blackcats’ offensive attack with run-scoring hits, was on base four times, and scored three runs.
Dylan Compton’s two-run triple in the first inning scored Johnson and Briley Dunn, and that turned out to be more than enough for Moss.
The two teams will play again Thursday night, also at Rent One Park.
