MURPHYSBORO — The Murphysboro Red Devils are headed to the championship match of their own 1A Girls Soccer Regional thanks to an 8-0 win over Massac County.

The Red Devils broke open a scoreless game midway through the first half, exploding for seven goals over the final 17 minutes of the half. Megan McNitt scored three times, Brynn Decker scored twice, with Bela Cerrato and Alexis Blevens also scoring before intermission.

Murphysboro senior Annie Decker assisted on three of those goals, breaking the school record for assists set last year by Decker’s best friend, Maci Uffelman.

Cerrato’s second goal of the night came in the shortened second half for the final tally.

Murphysboro advances to face top-seeded Freeburg Saturday morning at 11:00 for the title. Freeburg beat Mt. Carmel by the same 8-0 score in the first semifinal.
