DU QUOIN — Many of the area’s top baseball players gathered in Du Quoin for the annual Southern Illinois Baseball Coaches Association all-star games. It was the South 7, Black Diamond, and SEC vs the River to River, GEC, and the MTC.
The senior game was up first, and right away you could tell the players were enjoying the experience of playing with new teammates–some they knew, and some they didn’t, including some they had competed against.
Players from both teams took great pleasure having some good natured fun at the expense of teammates and opponents alike.
As for the game action, the SIRR/GEC/MTC took a 2-0 lead after one on RBI hits from Pinckneyville’s Nile Adcock and Carrier Mills/Stonefort’s Caden VanMeter. They added another run in the second on an RBI double by A-J’s Kyle Jerell scoring his Wildcat teammate Ethan Ames.
The South 7/BDC/SEC scored all of its runs on solo home runs. Mt. Vernon’s Roman Harrison cut it to 3-1 in the fourth. Carmi-White County’s Brody Atteberry added another an inning later to cut it to 3-2.
The SIRR/GEC/MTC added three insurance tallies in the sixth with the help of an error and an RBI single by Centralia’s Tyler O’Neill.
Harrison mashed his second homer of the game in the top of the ninth for the final run of the game as the SIRR/GEC/MTC won 6-3.
The South 7/BDC/SEC won the underclass game 12-5.
