NASHVILLE — On a night when Nashville celebrated last year’s basketball state championship with a ring and banner ceremony, the Carterville Lions used a huge second half to claim a coveted conference road win.
After trailing 19-10 at the half, Carterville opened the third quarter with a 14-0 run. By the time the quarter ended, the Lions had outscored the Hornets 18-4 to take a 28-23 lead to the fourth.
Carterville extended the lead to as many as 11 in the fourth before finishing with a 43-35 win. Seniors Kade Lustenberger, Peyton Bittle, and Caden Hawkins combined for 32 points to lead the Lions’ attack. Lustenberger (12 points) and Bittle (10 points) scored all of their points in the second half.
Nashville’s Bennett Briles led all scorers with 13.
The Lions improve to 3-0 in SIRR Mississippi play. The Hornets fall to 1-1.
