ELDORADO — For the second straight year, the Herrin Tigers beat the Massac County Patriots to win the Eldorado Holiday Tournament championship, this time by the score of 67-49.

And for the second straight year, Herrin’s Haydon Mayer took home tournament MVP honors. Mayer is only the third player in EHT history to win the award in back to back seasons, the first since Harrisburg’s Bahari Amaya in 2013 and 2014.

Herrin broke open a close game by closing the first half on an 8-0 run to take a 31-20 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Tigers then opened the third with another 8-0 run to extend the lead to 19 and cruised to the title.

Mayer led all scorers with 22. Kyrese Lukens added 15 and Exavier Williams 10 to lead the Tiger attack. Isaac Hosman led the Patriots with 18. Ian Higgerson added 10.

Lukens, Hosman, and Massac’s Will Harmon joined Mayer on the All-Tournament Team.

Herrin improves to 13-0 on the season, while Massac County falls to 12-2. The two teams return to SIRR Ohio play Tuesday night against each other in Metropolis.
