ENERGY — The Carbondale Terriers swept the individual and team champions on the girls side, while Marion did the same on the boys side at the South Seven championships held at Herrin Bowl.
Carbondale’s Taryn Russell won the girls individual title with 998 pins in five games, with the Terriers taking the team title by 101 pins over Mt. Vernon. Cahokia was third followed by Marion, Althoff, and Centralia.
Russell’s day included a 264 in her second game, which was the highest by any bowler, girls or boys, on the day. Russell finished 82 pins ahead of Althoff’s Lyllian Smith. Mt. Vernon’s Emily Elliott was third, with Carbondale’s Brooke Kochel and Cahokia’s Katrianna McKinney also earning first team all-conference honors.
On the boy’s side, Marion’s Chandler Buckingham was consistent all day, with his five games ranging between 181 and 236 for a total of 1009 pins, which was 76 pins better than teammate Garrett Murphy. Buckingham and Murphy helped lead the Wildcats to the team title in a close battle. Centralia was second just 15 pins back with Mt. Vernon third, 40 back. Carbondale, Cahokia, and Althoff rounded out the team standings.
Mt. Vernon’s Travin Elliott finished third, just a pin behind Murphy, but just 3 ahead of Carbondale’s Carter Snowden who was fourth. Centralia’s Blade Schrieffer finished out the first team boys all conference.
