PINCKNEYVILLE — For only the third time in 49 seasons, Pinckneyville will have a new boys basketball head coach next season. At Monday night’s meeting, the Pinckneyville school board accepted Bob Waggoner’s resignation.

Waggoner is leaving to become the next superintendent at Martinsville.

Pinckneyville head coach Bob Waggoner cuts down the net after the Panthers defeated Breese Central to win their own sectional.

Waggoner took over the Pinckneyville program in 2007, replacing Dick Corn who had retired after 32 seasons. In 16 seasons as the Panthers’ head coach, Waggoner’s teams went 386-103, winning nine regional championships, three sectional titles, and advancing to state twice, finishing 4th in 2008 and 2018. The Panthers won or shared six SIRR Mississippi titles during Waggoner’s tenure.

Pinckneyville was 28-7 this past season, falling to Teutopolis in the SIU 2A Supersectional.
