Carbondale — The Centralia Orphans and Carbondale Terriers each got wins last week via the forfeit from Granite City and Cahokia, respectively, so both teams had a little extra time to prepare for one another. The Orphans put up 454 total yards Friday night, while the Terriers gained 413 total yards, but what’s on the scoreboard is what counts and Carbondale beat Centralia Friday night 49-39 in Jackson County.
Centralia, now 1-4 on the season playing in their first South Seven game of the season saw WR Xavier Koch catch 10 passes for 210 yards and 4 touchdowns. QB Daryle Jones ran the ball 22 times for 147 yds/TD, Jones also was 16-32 passing for 237 yards and 4 tds.
The Terriers, now 3-2 overall and 3-0 in the South Seven got 2 touchdowns from running back Mozzy Graham (1 rushing, 1 receiving) as Graham totaled 218 yards on the night. Quarterback Brock Bowlby would throw 3 touchdown passes in the win for Carbondale. The Orphans host Marion next, while Carbondale plays at Granite City.
