Eldorado — If there were betting lines in high school football, Carmi-White County would have went into Eldorado as heavy favorites.  Like Georgia over Vanderbilt favorites.  And the way the CWC offense started on their opening drive, the Bulldogs appeared to be ready to cover the spread.  But the Eagles couldn’t quite grab the lead as they fell to CWC 14-8 on Senior Night at Boz Adams Field in Eldorado.

Eldorado took the opening drive all the way to the 7 and went for it on 4th and goal from the 12.  A running play got them to the 7 and a turnover on downs.  Three plays later, Noah Pollard ran 82 yards for a touchdown and after the two point conversion, CWC was rolling with an 8-0 lead.  But that’s the way it stayed through halftime.
Then on the first play of the 2nd half, after an unsuccessful Eldorado on-sides kick, Pollard took in his 2nd score from 51 yards out.  This time, the two point conversion attempt came up short, but the Bulldogs held a 14-0 lead.
“Two plays.  That’s all it took.”  said Eldorado head coach Joe Clark.  “Take those away and who knows?  But we hurt ourselves tonight.  Too many mistakes.  Too many penalties.  But I’m proud of our guys.  We came out and made some plays.  But this one hurts.”
But Eldorado suddenly gained some momentum.  Changing to a straight T formation, the Eagles had CWC on their heels.  Maddex Rash’s 20 yard run set up a 24 yard TD run by Jake Phelps, and Eldorado was on the board.  After a successful two point conversion run, Eldorado was down by just 6.
The Eagles would get a few more opportunities on offense but penalties plagued them throughout the 2nd half.  CWC was forced to punt with 2:40 left in the game.  A shanked 11 yard punt set the Eagles up at their own 30.  Again, a penalty and a sack put Eldorado back on 4th down and 23 with 1:15 remaining.  Instead of trying to pick up a first down through the air, the Eagles opted for a straight up run up the middle for Jake Phelps that gained 14 yards, but was 9 yards shy of keeping the drive going.  Two kneels by CWC QB Landon Driscoll sealed the win for the Bulldogs.
Phelps led Eldorado with 83 yards on 15 carries and the lone Eagles TD.  Pollard led CWC with 213 yards on 19 carries and the two scores.
Eldorado is now 1-7 and will close out their season at winless Christopher/Zeigler-Royalton on Friday night.  Carmi-White County is now 7-1 and is at Johnston City on Friday.
