ram-of-the-week-2024-10-18

Congratulations to this week’s Josh Finley Country Financial Rams of the Week from WMIX Sports, Rams Football’s JaShawn Staples and Rams Cross Country! Staples ran his way into the record books in a win at Granite City on Friday, October 11, while cross country ran their way to first place at the Centralia Invitational on Saturday, October 12!

JaShawn had a great night with 21 carries for a school record 329 yards plus 4 rushing touchdowns and added a defensive TD on an 86-yard strip and run. In addition to the forced fumble, he added five tackles. Staples now has 91 carries for 967 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns this season. The sophomore looks to blow past the 1,000 yard mark tomorrow night against Centralia which you can hear on 94.1 WMIX or watch here. It will be the team’s homecoming game at Ken Hunt Stadium.

In addition to JaShawn’s speed and athleticism–we salute the starting O-Line of Ryder Rhodes, Christian Taylor, Adrian Rhymer, Carter Burns, and Logan Webb!

On the heels of an impressive 3rd place finish out of 43 teams at the Peoria Invitational at Detweiler Park, the Rams took the Centralia Invitational with 59 points, edging out Carterville’s 61 in the 8-team event.
