Eldorado knocks off Christopher to open Arrowhead Classic


JOHNSTON CITY — The Eldorado Eagles beat Christopher 58-47 to open the inaugural Arrowhead Classic in Johnston City Monday night.

The Eagles led by 11 at the half, but the Bearcats opened the third quarter with a spurt, closing within 27-23. Eldorado answered with six straight to push the lead back double figures. It was 36-27 after three.

Christopher got as close as eight in the fourth quarter on a three-pointer from Colin Sveda, but the Eagles hit their free throws down the stretch.

Eldorado’s Lydayyea Shewmaker led all scorers with 19. Aiden Whitlock added 16. Kye Garver led Christopher with 13.

Both teams are back in action Tuesday night at the tournament. Eldorado will face Anna-Jonesboro at 6:00, followed by Christopher and Du Quoin.
