JOHNSTON CITY — The Carterville Lions won the Johnston City 2A Girls Regional championship, beating Benton 57-41.
The Lions led 31-23 at the half and seized complete control by holding Benton to only five third quarter points.
SIU signee Jeniah Thompson led all scorers with 21. Abbey Crain added 18 and Alicia Doyle 13 for Carterville.
Addysn Miller led Benton with 12. Mady Wallace added 11.
Carterville advances to its own sectional. The Lions will face Freeburg Tuesday night n the first semifinal. Nashville and Harrisburg will follow.
