VIENNA — Rick Metcalf’s second tour of coaching in Vienna started with an impressive 59-15 season opening win over Eldorado in a match up of Lady Eagles.
Metcalf won 89 games in four seasons as the Eagles’ head coach from 2004-08. Win number one as the Lady Eagles’ head coach came courtesy a suffocating defense and an offense that put three in double figures.
After Emma Wargel scored off a steal late in the first quarter to pull Eldorado within one at 9-8, Vienna took control with a 16-0 run. They eventually outscored Eldorado 20-3 in the second quarter to lead 31-11 at the half. The second half was more of the same as Vienna held Eldorado to just four points after halftime.
Emma Rush led the Vienna attack with 17. Addison Bent added 13, and Emme Treat chipped in 10.
Vienna will be back home Saturday to host Chester. Eldorado will welcome Hamilton County for its home opener Monday.
