CHRISTOPHER — Freshman Amiah Hargrove scored 23 points in her much anticipated high school debut to lead Christopher past Goreville 49-40 in overtime Saturday. It was the season and Black Diamond–West opener for both teams.
The Lady Blackcats had things going there way, leading 32-26 after three quarters and quickly extending that lead to eight early in the fourth.
Christopher rallied. Hargrove scored eight during an 11-0 run that gave the Lady Bearcats a 37-34 lead. The spurt included Hargrove turning a pair of steals into layups.
Then it was Goreville’s turn to rally. Buckets from Macie Tosh and Abby King gave the Lady Blackcats the lead back at 38-37.
Christopher’s Reagan Gilbert made one of two from the free throw line with :31 left to tie the game and eventually force overtime.
The OT was all Lady Bearcats. Hargrove scored immediately for the lead, then Gilbert converted a three-point play to extend the lead to five. Christopher outscored Goreville 11-2 in OT for the win.
Both teams are back in action Monday. Goreville will host Vienna, while Christopher will welcome S-V/Waltonville.
