MT. CARMEL — The number four ranked Mt Carmel Golden Aces finished up their season on Friday night against the Olney Tigers of Richland County. A combination of good defense by the Aces and the slow pace by the Tigers kept the score down, as the Aces won the low-scoring finale 38-22.
The first quarter got off to an extremely slow start, the Tigers would capture the lead first. The Aces would answer with an inside feed to Kaleb Applebey. After a contested jumper by Chase Travis, the Tigers regained the lead at 4-2, which would be their last lead for the rest of the game. The Aces led 7-4 after the opening frame.
The second quarter would see a little bit more scoring, but not a lot. Mt. Carmel used 5-0 run to end the half to lead 15-8 at the intermission.
Coming out of the half, the Aces scored 12 of the first 14 points and never looked back. The third quarter ended in a rather unusual fashion. Just before the horn sounded, there was a foul with .1 on the clock. That foul sent the Tigers to the free throw line, and Drew Blank would go on to hit both free throws. That cut the Aces lead to 29-16 after three.
The fourth and final frame would once again be a slow-paced quarter, but this time it was the Aces trying to salt away the clock for the victory. That would eventually be the case as the Aces would go on to capture the 16-point win. Mt Carmel got win number 15 on the shortened year, as they finished with a record of 15-2. The Tigers finished their season at 8-5.
