JOHNSTON CITY — The Johnston City Indians improved to 2-0 on the young season by taking care of Chester 32-15 Friday night at Ralph Davison Field.

The Indians jumped on top early, methodically taking their opening possession 46 yards in ten plays capped by Sam Harris’ one yard touchdown run. Harris tacked on the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

It stayed that way until early in the second, when Chester dug into the bag of tricks to pull out the reverse pass resulting in Nate Heffernan’s six yard TD pass to Cooper Eggemeyer. The Yellow Jackets added the extra point to cut Johnston City’s lead to 8-7.

The Indians extended their lead before halftime on sophomore Isiah Watson’s scintillating 31-yard touchdown run. Watson broke two tackles then slammed on the brakes to make a third defender miss before turning on the jets down the sideline and into the endzone. Johnston City junior quarterback Austin Brown, who converted a third and ten with a 23-yard run to keep the drive alive, then found Jordan Wininger in the back of the endzone for the two-point conversion and a 16-7 halftime lead.

Harris and Brown added fourth quarter touchdowns to seal the Indians’ win.

Johnston City will pay a visit to Sesser-Valier/Waltonville next Saturday. Chester will also be on the road next Saturday as the Yellow Jackets will face Vienna/Goreville.
