Area teams earn trips to the Bass Fishing State Tournament

A total of 75 spots in the State Bass Fishing Tournament were up grabs at 25 sectionals across the state Thursday. Carbondale was the lone school in the region to qualify two teams for state, doing so despite having a lone fisherman per boat.

Jayden Snyder won the Kinkaid Lake Sectional championship. Snyder brought in the five fish limit, including the day’s big bass (3.89 lbs). Snyder’s total of 15.61 pounds won the title by nearly four pounds.

Snyder’s teammate, Gaige Shelton hauled in five fish for 10.50 pounds, which was good enough to finish third. The Murphysboro duo of Tucker Horstman and Gage Boucher finished in second place between the Terriers with a total of 11.82 pounds. The Carterville team of Carson Harris and Owen Anderson finished fourth with 9.85 pounds. They will be the alternate team if one of the top three cannot compete at state.

Meanwhile, a pair of Goreville sisters took home the Lake of Egypt Sectional championship. Kaeden and Reice Albright brought in five fish that weighed in at 15.85 pounds, which was good enough to edge Gallatin County’s Gunner Wilson and Jake Colbert (15.20) and Vienna’s Cole Sampson and Landon Cain (14.93). Sampson and Cain brought in the day’s big bass–it weighed in at 6.07. Vienna’s second team of Landen Wyatt and Morgan Buchanan finished fourth and will be alternates for the state.

The Okawville duo of Ethan Kolweier and Cole Klasing won the Rend Lake Sectional championship with 8.29 pounds. Nashville’s Grant Pedtke and Lilly Taft took second with 6.13 pounds. Christopher’s Kye Garver and Dylan Holden took third with 5.93 pounds. Benton’s Laindree Richards and Lucas Wielt were fourth (4.56) and will serve as alternates for state.

Patoka’s team of Jordan Gebke, Evan Meier, Justin Copple, and Brady Thompson won the Forbes Lake Sectional with a total 9.94 pounds. Carlyle’s Keegan Kampwerth, Brandon Schneider, and Michael Brinkman were second with 9.13. The Teutopolis team of Hunter Sandschafer, Ethan Thoele and Collin Probst also qualified for state, finishing third with 9.00 pounds. Patoka’s Wyatt Hassell, Noah Shaw, Braden Meyer, and Hunter Lane were fourth (8.50) and will serve as alternates for state.

The Bass Fishing State Tournament will be May 21-22 at Carlyle Lake.
