HERRIN — Future Saluki Emma Austin drove in three runs and scored three runs, and Cali McCraw struck out six in six shutout innings to lead Massac County to an 11-0 win in six innings at Herrin. With the win, the Lady Patriots improve to 9-0 in conference play and clinch the SIRR–Ohio title outright.
Austin’s two-out, bases clearing, three-run double highlighted a five run second inning for Massac County. Austin then scored on Kaylee Batha’s RBI single.
Then in the fourth, Austin showed off her speed, scoring from second on Batha’s sacrifice bunt.
The early runs were more than enough for McCraw, who scattered six hits. Herrin’s best scoring chance came with two outs in the fifth as Jersey Summers singled and Taylor Cornelius doubled, but McCraw got Whitney Keel to ground out to short to end the threat.
The Lady Patriots tacked on four more in the sixth. Three of the runs scored on a bases loaded walk, a bases loaded hit by pitch, and bases loaded wild pitch. Claire Bremer’s RBI single put Massac County up 11-0.
Herrin put two runners on with two out in the sixth trying to avoid the short game, but McCraw struck out Regan Deaton to end it.
Massac County will go for the Ohio sweep Friday at home against Harrisburg, weather permitting. Herrin finished winless in conference play.
