CARBONDALE — For roughly the past decade, the Benton Rangers and Nashville Hornets have been the teams to beat in boys golf on their respective sides of the Southern Illinois River to River.
After Anna-Jonesboro snapped Nashville’s streak of 11 straight Mississippi championships last fall, the Hornets came back this year to edge the Wildcats by two strokes to win the title. Pinckneyville was third, 11 shots back. Nashville finished 1-2 individually, with sophomore Parker Renken taking home medalist honors with a 76, which was three shots better than teammate Aaron Brink.
Benton meanwhile made it seven consecutive Ohio boys golf titles, cruising to a 43-stroke win over Massac County and Harrisburg. The Rangers posted the top five individual scores, led by Cy Norman who took home medalist honors with a 68.
