CARBONDALE — The Carbondale Terriers had a chance to win the South 7 football championship outright with a win over Marion Friday night. The Wildcats were having nothing of it.

Lukas Shrum scored three touchdowns, and Marion also scored on fumble returns on special teams and defense to build a 38-0 lead at the half, and the Wildcats cruised to a 41-8 win.

Marion’s win, coupled with Cahokia’s 46-8 win over Althoff, leaves the Wildcats, Terriers, and Comanches all finishing 4-1 in the conference and in a three-way share of the title.

The Wildcats improve to 7-1 overall. They will close out the regular season at home against Mattoon Friday. The Terriers fall to 5-3. Carbondale is playoff eligible with five wins, and needs a win next week at home against 7-1 Mascoutah to clinch a postseason spot.
