GOREVILLE — Trico and Goreville entered Tuesday night’s volleyball matchup with identical 9-1 records in Black Diamond West play. The Pioneers left town with a 25-22, 25-21 win to break that tie and assure themselves of at least a share of the conference title.
Neither team led by more than two points in the opening set, until Goreville tallied five straight to lead 20-15. The Pioneers stormed back, scoring 10 of the game’s final 12 points to take the first 25-22.
That run continued in the second as Trico jumped out to a 9-1 lead, but this time it was Goreville that came storming back. The Blackcats came all the way back to take a 16-15 lead. After the teams exchanged points, the Pioneers again closed out the set in a strong fashion, completing the sweep by taking game two 25-21.
Trico can clinch the title outright with a win at home Thursday night against Vienna.
