BENTON — The Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois Player of the Week for October 4-9 is Benton junior Cy Norman.

Norman is the only nominee we’ve had run opposed in the polls. That happens when you win a state title. Norman won the 2A boys golf individual title in Normal, shooting 8-under par over the two days to win by four strokes.

The Rangers finished second as a team to Chicago St. Ignatius College Prep. Both teams will likely return most of their players, setting up another potential duel for a state championship next year.

That’s just fine with Norman and the rest of the Rangers.
