CARTERVILLE — After splitting four previous meetings this season, the Carterville Lady Lions used a late run in the third set to win the fifth meeting with Pinckneyville 25-22, 22-25, 25-19–this one for the Carterville 2A Regional championship.

The teams split the first two games, with each winning 25-22–just another example of how even these teams were. The Lady Panthers had an 18-15 lead in the third, but Carterville ripped off eight points, including seven straight service points from Amanda Howerton. The Lady Lions outscored Pinckneyville 10-1 to close the match.

Carterville has now tied a school record with 32 wins, including the school’s first regional title since 2013. The Lady Lions advance to the Johnston City Sectional, where they will face Carmi-White County Monday at 5:30. Nashville will take on Hamilton County in the second semifinal. The two winners will meet for the sectional championship Wednesday night.
